Mark Messerschmidt

Mark Messerschmidt was born and raised outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He graduated from West Chester University in 2009 and obtained a Juris Doctor degree from Western Michigan University, magna cum laude, in 2015 when he was also admitted to the Florida Bar.  Mr. Messerschmidt finished in the top ten of his law-school class and received Western Michigan University, Cooley School of Law’s President’s Academic Achievement Award.  While in law school, he made the Dean’s List each semester and earned the Certificate of Merit Award (i.e., highest grade) in Torts I & II, Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Trial Skills and Medical Malpractice.  Mr. Messerschmidt was also a member of the National Mock Trial Team and Phi Delta Phi in law school and served as a managing associate editor for Law Review, earning the Eugenie Krasicky Award for significant contributions.   Before joining La Cava, Jacobson, Mr. Messerschmidt interned/clerked there as well as with the Staff Attorneys of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit Court in Manatee County, Florida, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, in Tampa.

Mr. Messerschmidt’s practice is primarily focused on defending healthcare professionals, such as doctors, hospitals and other healthcare-related entities and providers.  He is admitted to practice law in Florida and the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

Mr. Messerschmidt was recognized by Best Lawyers^®: Ones to Watch in 2022 related to his work in Medical Malpractice defense.  A lawyer must be nominated to earn that peer-review award, which is typically given to attorneys who have been in private practice for 5-9 years.

When not defending healthcare professionals, Mr. Messerschmidt enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children.
