Karen “Jeanne” Ugarte-McFarland

Karen “Jeanne” Ugarte-McFarland joined La Cava Jacobson as a Registered Nurse/ Paralegal in our personal injury and general liability defense department. She was born and raised in Miami, Florida and has over 28 years’ experience working as a nurse paralegal and has worked in areas of medical malpractice, general liability defense, premises liability, and auto negligence. Jeanne attended Miami Dade Community College and Jackson Nursing School for her Registered Nursing Studies, as well as Keiser University for Risk Management and Florida International University for her paralegal certification. Her nursing background includes experience in supervisory and clinical roles at Jackson Memorial Hospital, University of Miami and Sylvester Cancer Center’s surgery, gynecology/ oncology and woman’s health departments. Her nurse paralegal experience includes assisting the legal team with review and analysis of medical records, preparation of medical chronologies, expert retentions and preparation of expert materials, discovery document review and document management, as well as assisting the attorneys with preparation for depositions, mediation and trial.
