Richard Benjamin Wilkes Joins La Cava & Jacobson

Richard B. WilkesAttorney Richard Benjamin Wilkes joined La Cava & Jacobson, P.A. as Of Counsel and in turn we are pleased to welcome Kindred Hospital as a client. Mr. Wilkes was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1978 and to the Bar of the United States Supreme Court in 1988.  Since beginning the practice of law, Mr. Wilkes has focused his practice on contract and business tort litigation, and professional malpractice.

Thomas Saieva and Lesley A. Stine have joined La Cava & Jacobson, P.A.

Thomas SaievaMr. Saieva specializes in the defense of hospital and professional liability cases. He has defended hospitals and professionals including physicians of all specialties, dentists, nurses and attorneys in numerous jury trials.  He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1976 and has been Board Certified in Civil Trial Practice since 1984.

Lesley A. StineMrs. Stine’s practice has been focused on the representation of physicians, nurses, dentists and hospitals in medical malpractice actions. She has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1995 and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida.

Jason Azzarone lectured at a continuing legal education seminar presented by the National Business Institute entitled “The Rules of Evidence: A Practical Toolkit” in Tampa, Florida. Mr. Azzarone spoke on two topics: The “Big Six” Admissibility Questions; and Witness Testimony and Reports.

Kari Jacobson Speaks at the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance

Kari K. Jacobson, Esquire spoke at the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM) Retail, Restaurant & Hospitality Conference on February 23, 2017 in Grapevine, Texas.  During the conference Kari presented “Just Keep Swimming – While Avoiding RWIs” – Avoiding Recreational Water Illnesses.

Nita Serrano Elected Vice President And Director Of Certification For The National Federation of Paralegal Association

NATIONAL FEDERATION OF PARALEGAL ASSOCIATIONS (NFPA®) ANNOUNCES FLORIDA PARALEGAL, NITA SERRANO, RP®, ELECTED VICE PRESIDENT AND DIRECTOR OF CERTIFICATION

Oakbrook Terrace, IL — The National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc. (NFPA) is pleased to announce that Nita Serrano, RP® has been elected to the position of Vice President and Director of Certification for the 2016—2018 term.

Nita Serrano, RP®, is a litigation Paralegal with the Tampa law firm of LaCava & Jacobson P.A. in their general casualty department handling all aspects of cases from case inception through trial preparation and participation.  Nita has been a paralegal for over 20 years, four of those years as a freelance paralegal.  Nita specializes in the areas of civil litigation, insurance defense, medical malpractice, personal injury, nursing home and general negligence.  She has also worked in the areas of criminal and family law.

Nita earned her Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies from Florida Metropolitan University, and her designation as a PACE Registered Paralegal (RP®) from the National Federation of Paralegal Associations in March, 2007.

Nita has been a member of the Tampa Bay Paralegal Association, Inc. (TBPA) and has served as a Second Vice President, President Elect; President; Board Advisor; and Director.  Nita has also been a member of the Florida Alliance of Paralegal Associations, Inc. (“FAPA”) since 2013 and was FAPA President.

Nita has been a volunteer with Wills for Heroes, Dress for Success and PACE Center for Girls, Hillsborough for several years.  Nita is also a Guardian ad Litem for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit, Tampa, FL.

The Vice President and Director of Paralegal Certification will assist the President in leading NFPA and the paralegal profession by overseeing and managing the administration of the Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam (PACE), the Paralegal CORE Competency Exam (PCC Exam) and the PACE Standards Committee, by addressing issues related to paralegal certification and by being the main spokesperson regarding paralegal certification.

NFPA is a non-profit professional organization representing more than 8,000 paralegals and is headquartered in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.  NFPA’s Core Purpose is the advancement of the paralegal profession.  NFPA promotes a global presence for the paralegal profession and leadership in the legal community.

Kari K. Jacobson elected to Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel

Kari K. Jacobson has been elected to The Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel.  The Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel (FDCC) is composed of recognized leaders in the legal community who have achieved professional distinction.  FDCC Membership is limited, selective, and by nomination only.

Myers and Tampa, Florida.  Mr. Azzarone spoke on three topics:  Establishing Authenticity and Satisfying the Best Evidence Rule: the Unsurmountable Challenge; Using Expert Witnesses to Get Your Evidence in (and Keep Theirs Out); and Real-World Examples, Handy How-to’s and Sample Screen Shots.

Lou La Cava has been selected by his peers for inclusion in the 23rd Edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the practice area of Medical Malpractice Law – Defendants.
